HAT.tec and Project Q Partner to Advance Multi-Domain Defence Operations at Sea

  • Strategic partnership to integrate software-defined defence solutions across land, air, and maritime environments
  • Collaboration is designed to connect sensor data from different systems to enable decision-making and mission execution within a unified software architecture
  • Both companies establish a foundation for long-term joint innovation, operational integration, and coordinated engagement for European strategic autonomy

Berlin and Munich, Germany, 11 May, 2026 – HAT.tec, a leading provider of mission management software for multi-domain operations, and Project Q, a European DefenceTech company specializing in software-defined defence integration and orchestration, today announced a strategic partnership to develop and deliver integrated, software-defined defence solutions. The collaboration is based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and centers on integrating HYDRIS into SCALE to improve how data is processed and used in operational contexts, across land, air, and maritime environments.

The partnership addresses a core challenge in modern defence: fragmented systems that limit interoperability and delay decision-making. By combining both platforms, data from different sensors and systems can be consolidated into a shared operational picture and translated more efficiently into mission execution.

HYDRIS is an open-source integration and orchestration layer, connecting heterogeneous systems and data sources. SCALE is a certified mission management system for human-autonomy teaming in military and civilian contexts. Together, they provide seamless data flow from sensor detection to operational execution across all domains, including maritime environments.

“With our software SCALE, we enhance critical decision-making in complex missions. Project Q’s approach strongly complements our ecosystem. Together, we deliver solutions that meet real operators’ needs and advance how modern defence capabilities are developed,” said Fabian Schmitt, Co-CEO and Co-Founder at HAT.tec.

“Defence software needs to move away from closed systems that are difficult to adapt. With HAT.tec, we’re bringing integration and mission execution closer together, which is critical for building flexible, multi-domain capabilities,” said Leonard Wessendorff, Co-Founder and CEO at Project Q.

The partnership builds upon existing projects that demonstrated the technical and operational fit of both systems. Furthermore, the collaboration is intended as a long-term foundation for joint innovation, coordinated market engagement, and the development of additional integrated solutions for governmental and defence-sector customers.

About HAT.tec

HAT.tec – Human Autonomy Teaming Technologies is Europe’s leading software company for platform-independent mission management of military and security-related operations. Headquartered near Munich, the international team of around 70 employees develops SCALE, a modular and scalable mission management system designed in accordance with aviation standards and operationally proven across civil, law enforcement, and military applications.

SCALE integrates data across platforms and domains into one single operational picture, driving efficient and effective decision-making – even in highly dynamic environments. Built for real-world operations, it combines human judgement with intelligent assistance to support seamless Human Autonomy Teaming and increase mission effectiveness. Certified and designed for complex operations, SCALE sets the standard for modern multi-domain missions across land, air and sea.

HAT.tec was launched in 2018 as a spin-off from the University of the Bundeswehr Munich by two aerospace engineers (PhD). Initially financed exclusively through contracts, the company is now supported in its scaling by a well-known German investor. Further growth steps are already planned.

About Project Q

Q is a European defence tech company based in Munich and Berlin. We build the integration infrastructure for the Internet of Defence – the software layer connecting sensors, unmanned systems, and command applications across armed forces, security agencies, and critical infrastructure operators.

HYDRIS, is an Apache 2.0 open-source orchestration and integration middleware designed for mission-critical environments. HYDRIS enables heterogeneous systems and data sources to be fused into a unified operational picture while supporting modular AI-driven processing and automation.

Rather than locking users into proprietary architectures, HYDRIS provides a fully inspectable and extensible foundation that organisations can adapt, deploy, and operate independently.

We believe that modern defence and security software must enable operators, integrators, and governments to continuously evolve capabilities in a modular and sovereign manner. Only an open and interoperable ecosystem can create resilient, whole-of-state defence architectures fit for modern conflict and crisis response.
